Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey.......

Oh my god!!!!! Excitement!!!! We have tickets for Morrissey!!!!!! I nearly had a heart attack trying to buy tickets, I had 2 phones and my laptop going-I looked like one of those Wall street traders shouting 'Buy,Sell,Buy'. Anyway tickets are bought now so I can relax. I have travelled all over to see Morrissey so I am soooo happy this time he will only be a 10 minute tram journey away.

After I had calmed down on friday, I noticed these on my kitchen table, Geordie found them in the 'hideous cupboard under the srairs'. I have got no idea where they came from or what they were doing in my 'hideous cupboard under the stairs'. Geordie has never seen them before either! I do like them though and squealed with delight on finding them.....

I haven't been doing much to blog about recently as no sooner did I recover from my virus (which made me feel rough for about 3 weeks) when I started to feel ill again. I actually realised I'd been ill every month since last November. I decided to really take it easy for a couple of weeks and went to bed early every night and got loads of sleep, I bought some vitamin C, zinc and echinacea drops, loads of fruit, salad and vegetables, and tried to keep my stress levels really low. Geordie is an angel when I feel low because he was making me my tea so I could eat when I came in from work, and he made me a flask of hot water, honey and lemon every morning to take to work. It seems to be working up to now anyway because fingers crossed I've started to feel a bit better and more like my old self.

Anyway speaking of Geordie, he has been working away on restoring his lovely 1978 MGB GT. He loves restoring classic cars and we have had loads of Beetles, Mini's, a VW campervan and loads of motorbikes. I am trying desperately to finish my car blanket so we can take it to the classic car shows in the summer in the MG with our lovely picnic hamper.

I know it's only an MG not an E-type jag but I always feel a bit decadent and movie star-ish when we go out in it and I think Geordie should be wearing a velvet smoking jacket and smoking a pipe.

Off for another early night now but hopefully I'll be back to my old knitting, crocheting, vintage hunting, craft loving, shopaholic, colourful self soon.

Geordie the skip rat....

Look what Geordie found in a skip near a friend of ours?

It's really solid and chunky. I'm going to paint it and put it on the landing as a linen / bedding box. We're really short of storage in this house and this is just so perfect (or it will be when I've finished with it). The only reason I can think of for it being in a skip is that there is a small ink stain on the top but once I've sanded and painted it it will be fine.

Tonight I decided to look at all the squares I was crocheting for my Babette Car blanket that I started in February and have neglected after an initial flurry of activity. I laid all the pieces out and realised it won't take many more squares as I'm planning on putting quite a thick border on it. This blanket is to take out in the car for sitting on at classic car shows and picnics so I must get it finished in the next couple of months. When I look at it, I really wish I'd gone for a brighter yellow instead of that pale one but never mind. Also all the wool is acrylic and some of it feels a bit 'squeaky' but I wanted it to be hard wearing and machine washable so I'm sure it will be ok when it all comes together.

I finally finished my Easter chicks too so they are being hand delivered with chocolate and hard cash tomorrow.....(and yes I know the pink one has a bent leg-I think it's cute and quirky but I'm not sure my super critical niece will agree!)

I also made this on Friday for my antiques friend Ms M who has a bit of a boiled egg / vintage egg cup obsession. It was her birthday and since she left work we made a pact not to buy birthday presents for each other anymore as she is trying to start her business up and is on a strict budget. I just couldn't do it so I told her it didn't count as I made it.

In the end it was good karma because one of her friends saw it and asked if I could make her a hat in a similar style....and she wants to pay for it!!!! I feel a bit wierd about it as when I've made things in the past I've always done it for nothing so we'll see.....

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter.

Antiques, Shopping and Making Stuff.

Had a lovely weekend but I've been so busy at work I haven't had a chance to upload my pictures.
On Friday I started making the easter 'birdies' for my nephew and niece. I think I might have to combine them with chocolate or 'hard cash' as at the age of 9 and 8, they are a bit too old to be satisfied with home-made pressies now. This is as far as I got though......

Oh well I'll devote some time to them this week.

Anyway on Saturday we went to York again for the day and it was a beautiful day although a bit chilly. We sat outside a lovely old church and had our sandwiches and coffee.

Geordie found this gorgeous silver plated ice bucket with tongs shaped like chickens feet. This is perfect for our 1950's drinks trolley which we've been collecting stuff for over the last couple of years. To be honest we've got way too much stuff now, but this definitely has to go on it-only a fiver as well. It's dated 1953.

Geordie also treated me to this......

What can I say? He does spoil me.....

On Sunday we went to the Reebok Antiques fair in Bolton. I actually missed the junction on the motorway and ended up miles away but it was worth it in the end. I got a lovely 1970's Midwinter sugar bowl (I think)-it's got a lid so I'm not 100% sure if that's what it is-and only £2. Just need all the matching cups, saucers and plates now-lol.

I got a really sweet black cat brooch for £3, some vintage buttons for £2, a Ladybird book about radios for my geeky Geordie (who makes most of his money these days buying and selling vintage short wave and CB radio's), and the last thing we got was a metal school 'Librarian' badge which Geordie found and surprised me with. He remembered me telling him that I was the librarian when I was 9 at Primary school and had one of these badges which I was very proud of. One day I lost it and my teacher told me off and refused to replace it. I remember being heartbroken and crying about it. Geordie has been trying to get me one for ages but could only ever find 'Prefect' ones so I was absolutely over the moon when he gave me this-it meant as much to me as a diamond ring.

As work has been really busy and stressful this week, I have been crocheting every night to relax and get my fix of being creative. I started a cushion cover made in little squares that you join as you go (which I'm loving-never done before). Im doing this, and this is as far as I've got....

I also made this bauble to hang in my car as an air freshener. I added some essential oil to the stuffing and a cat's whisker I found from one of the cats. I read somewhere that a cat's whisker is supposed to keep you safe on car journeys and after my 20 mile motorway detour on Sunday I could do with as much help as possible!!!

One more day to go at work tomorrow then a lovely long weekend to look forward to-painting, gardening, days out, if it's sunny, hot chocolate, blanket making and sky+ if it's not......can't wait. xx
