Last Christmas day me and my mum and dad had a hurried dinner before driving to Trafford General where my lovely Geordie was lying in intensive care on a respirator. He didn't know it was Christmas and we weren't sure what was going to happen. We have really looked forward to this Christmas and it was lovely to see him eating, laughing, walking a bit and just being here with us. <br />
Anyway, as he has needed less help with things, I have had a bit of time to myself and have been feeling a bit creative and I have found it quite relaxing.<br />
I found two old stools in the spare room that we had used as bedside tables. They were sturdy but quite scruffy and full of cup ring marks. I didn't fancy painting them so I thought I'd have a go at covering them with some kind of decoupage. I bought two packs of serviettes, one from Tesco for £1.00 and one from Cath Kidston for £3.50 (a bit dear in my opinion and not any better than the Tesco ones!) The only other thing I bought was PVA glue for £1.00.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3R-HndjLGqNcbqd7oU8WTr6-FgPZgzPRALOm3HVV7nTABZ8dZIZQDQs1Z8N-7rxVSGhKPwwTXRK8UHAhn59IDZbZU9QkxSaRHZ0t29sV3UNmthZrUcgYa8k__ACaBFb65fUdhQEbtYUA/s1600/005+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3R-HndjLGqNcbqd7oU8WTr6-FgPZgzPRALOm3HVV7nTABZ8dZIZQDQs1Z8N-7rxVSGhKPwwTXRK8UHAhn59IDZbZU9QkxSaRHZ0t29sV3UNmthZrUcgYa8k__ACaBFb65fUdhQEbtYUA/s1600/005+(2).JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhksTB2q5hyphenhyphendYjUmkWuEW4AdbtY309-LzQylXLxS60zIGJGcBYrsJYtMOMvpgTpviV6BaHkD03uzmSS0OfrYTCwCjuIr9AzptXfIqNfmCjrJZwIFTMvEv6aA-J4_tYTWBM_h6RCObFKgy0/s1600/006+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhksTB2q5hyphenhyphendYjUmkWuEW4AdbtY309-LzQylXLxS60zIGJGcBYrsJYtMOMvpgTpviV6BaHkD03uzmSS0OfrYTCwCjuIr9AzptXfIqNfmCjrJZwIFTMvEv6aA-J4_tYTWBM_h6RCObFKgy0/s1600/006+(4).JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All I did was tear the serviettes into strips and small pieces, brush PVA glue on the stools and stick the pieces on, then brush them into a kind of scrunchy texture. I let it dry then put about 4 or 5 coats of PVA glue on as a kind of varnish. </div>

Now I don't often make things for people except maybe a present for family as I'm a bit self-conscious about my work and think it's not good enough or it will fall apart or unravel. Anyway I agreed and made this from some lovely Debbie Bliss cashmere and merino wool.....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's actually the first hat I've ever made and I just went off what I would like myself. She was really happy with it and actually sent me a photo of said sister-in-law wearing my hat in Copenhagen where her husband had taken her for her birthday!! It was very simple to make. I did a <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/crocheting-a-flat-circle.html" target="_blank">Lucy circle</a> but for 6 rounds then just straight rows-couldn't be easier. The flower was another Attic 24 design from <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/crochet-flowers-and-leaves.html" target="_blank">here</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been up to a few other crafty things but I'll tell you about them next time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope you have all had a lovely Christmas.</div>

<br />
The last time I updated on here, my poor Geordie had just been told he had cancer and we were waiting the results of some tests. Well since then we have had an absolute nightmare. Geordie went into hospital in October last year for a few tests and his first course of chemotherapy. They wanted to monitor him and he was supposed to be in for 5 days. Things started to go downhill almost immediately.......<br />
<br />
To cut a long story short, Geordie ended up getting infections, skin problems and breathing difficulties. He wasn't able to leave hospital and was there until recently. He suffered respiratory failure just before Christmas and was put onto a life support machine to breath for him. The doctors told me they had never seen a haematology patient come off a respirator in 25 years and we were preparing for the worst. ...<br />
<br />
but Geordie is made of tough stuff and he was woken up a week later. He had to have a tracheostomy put in to help him breath and he couldn't talk or eat for weeks. He spent weeks in Intensive Care being looked after by the most attentive wonderful nurses I have ever met.<br />
<br />
Then one day I walked into his room and the nurse said "He's got something to tell you..." I looked at Geordie and he said "Hello"...oh my god, I've never heard anything so wonderful!!!<br />
<br />
His long battle is still going on. He has lost almost half his body weight and has been as low as 47 kilos. He has lost all his muscle and couldn't sit up unaided or stand up or anything. He will walk again but it will be a long process involving rehab and a lot of work. In January he could only lie on his back and wiggle his fingers, then he began to feed himself and if the nurses 'hoisted' him into a wheelchair he could propel himself down the hospital corridor.<br />
<br />
We tried to enjoy our hospital visits together. We tried to enjoy pleasures such as fresh coffee and a cake and 'Dickinson's Real Deal'. He continued to have chemotherapy when he was well enough and we should find out soon if it has been successful and what happens next. <br />
<br />
He was in hospital for 8 months without a break. He has had trauma after trauma which would fill a whole blog by itself.....<br />
<br />
BUT....<br />
<br />
he is now home!!! He is putting weight on, he is walking with a frame. He is standing up on his own to get dressed. His spirit is as strong as ever and he is determined to be back walking and doing all the things he loved before this happened. No one can quite believe what he has come through and how well he is doing. We have the most wonderful team of carers, physiotherapist's and occupational therapists who work with him at home as well as the fantastic Consultant who has saved his life (which sounds dramatic but is absolutely true!!)<br />
<br />
I have now finished work to be his full time carer and I'm hoping to find some time to get back into my crafty things as well.<br />
<br />
This has quite literally been the worst year of my life but some wonderful things have come out of it. First my family have been fantastic and looked after me when I couldn't eat or sleep for worrying. Second all the lovely neighbours. I didn't realise how much they all thought of Geordie till they were crying when they saw the ambulance bring him home. They have watched my house, hugged me and fed my cats, they've changed my tyres, done washing and cleaning for me and sent the most beautiful thoughtful cards. Third, my work colleagues who have offered me keys to their houses so I could sleep between hospital visits, one guy who brought me salads every day, fruit and soup to make sure I ate. They sent me flowers, bought me presents and basically let me text them at all hours. <br />
<br />
People's kindness and love for us has made me feel really humbled and I hope I can be that person for someone else in need.<br />
<br />
I now hope to get back to my original blog (with maybe a little Geordie update now and again!)<br />
<br />

This is the first time I've visited Blogland in ages (well it feels like ages!!) Some of you may know my poor Geordie has been feeling poorly for a couple of months and we have been backwards and forwards trying different medications, having cameras down and various scans. Well 19 days ago we received the devastating news he has cancer. At first they said it was in his liver, spleen and kidneys. After having a CT scan they now think its lymphoma and told us a lot of lymphomas are treatable. To say this has been one of the worst times in my life is an understatement. We are now awaiting a liver biopsy which should happen this week and then the results the week after-we should then know what can be done. I had cancer myself 11 years ago (Hodgkins disease) and just can't believe this is happening to us again-getting cancer at a young age is still very rare. My Geordie was a tower of strength when I was ill but I'm afraid I'm falling apart a bit. </div>
<div align="center">
Anyway we are praying, staying positive, and trying to stay calm while all the tests are done.</div>
<div align="center">
Please can you all pray for him or send some positive vibes our way that we hear some good news and he will be able to be treated and return to health.</div>
<div align="center">
Thanks everyone. xxx </div>

Look what I caught my Mum throwing out?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLvIgmdlT6CvgYnhslX0uwJwssCngvIKiFUB5PMM9d4Mbdz-0jSFOquuti_As2bYJDCUUFJs0KXxSJZ1KWDpZ9ZCOIfxWqwUAJLJRqKz5wov2a2vV6wFM502OuCu_ApnWZCDcGIzNr24w/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLvIgmdlT6CvgYnhslX0uwJwssCngvIKiFUB5PMM9d4Mbdz-0jSFOquuti_As2bYJDCUUFJs0KXxSJZ1KWDpZ9ZCOIfxWqwUAJLJRqKz5wov2a2vV6wFM502OuCu_ApnWZCDcGIzNr24w/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's an old cushion cover that belonged to my Gran. It's a bit smaller than standard cushions these days and there are a few marks and stains on the back. I snatched it from my Mum's hands and begged her to give it me. She looked at me like I've finally snapped but look at those colours and the pattern!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway I got it home and realised only one side was worth using.....so I drew round a dinner plate......</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I absolutely adore <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lea_Stein" target="_blank">Lea Stein</a> brooches. If you google her work, you will probably recognise them. The most famous ones are the foxes and cats and they look very Art Deco in style. There are a lot on ebay and in antique shops but at around £50, they are way out of my budget at the moment. They are made from plastic, and are very colourful, she developed the technique with her husband which allowed her to insert fabrics, colours and patterns onto the plastic. </div>

Brand new Cath Kidston red polka dot sandals for only £8 on ebay (were £28 new!) I was over the moon with these as I have a quite serious polka dot obsession. I haven't posted on here for a couple of weeks due to my poor Geordie being quite ill. He had to go into hospital for some unpleasant tests and although some things have been ruled out, it still hasn't been resolved. I've felt so stressed and worried that I haven't really done much to post about. What I have done is crocheted like a mad 'hooky' person and I've found it quite relaxing and distracting. I was very excited to finsh my Vintage Stripe Blanket.....</div>

I love the bright colours and they really cheer the room up. I bought the actual cushions for £1.49 each from B&M Bargains and then because you could see the white cheap material they are made out of through the gaps in the crochet, I cut up 2 T-shirts, one in pale blue and one in pink to make a cover for the cushions first before I put them in the crochet covers.</div>

Remember my post about <a href="http://quirky--vintage.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/i-really-love-these.html" target="_blank">Avoca socks</a>? These are gorgeous knee high socks with lovely little trimmings but they are quite expensive and I had a real yearning for them. Well in the end I bought some socks in the sale from Tesco for £2 and raided my trimmings box. It has actually been cold enough to wear these recently under my knee boots (I know, I can't believe it's Summer!!!)</div>

I haven't had much time for charity shop bargain hunting, so no vintage finds but I did find this gorgeous Boden cardigan for £3.99. I was ecstatic to find this because Boden (like Monsoon) is right up my street for quirky, colourful, embroidered vintage-style clothes, but it's just too expensive for me! This cardigan was probably around £60 new (at least) and it looks like it's never been worn-BARGAIN!!!</div>

I also had a little trip to the Cath Kidston shop to browse in the sale. I haven't been doing much else these last 2 weeks apart from having a free listen to the Stone Roses gigs as I only live about 10 minutes from Heaton Park. I had the back door open so I could hear the music without the trauma of standing in the rain and mud. Our whole area was totally swamped with Roses fans and it was quite exciting really seeing people who had travelled from all over the world queuing for beer in our Sainsburys!! I saw one enterprising neighbour cooking burgers in his front garden on a barbecue and selling them to the fans! I'm sure he had all the necessary permits and risk assessments done beforehand-lol.</div>

Ms M bought some lovely things for her shop, chamber pots, vases, tea caddies etc. We are totally different when we go shopping together because she likes to look at the factory names and if there is a chip, a crack or anything missing she's not interested whereas I always tend to gravitate towards the rejects- a dish with the lid missing, a vase on it's own when it should be a pair, I just go for pattern and colour, I don't care if it has no name underneath.</div>
<div align="center">
We went in a few vintage clothes shops too and saw some gorgeous dresses and fake fur shawls and jackets-so lovely. We saw so many beautiful things but I'm on such a tight budget at the moment it was strictly window shopping in those shops. As I did the driving, Ms M treated me to coffee and carrot cake in a lovely old-fashioned tea room. Yum!!</div>

As the weather has kept me at home quite a bit, I decided to get some of my 'Work In Progresses' finished. First up was my <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2009/10/little-squares-cushion-tadah.html" target="_blank">Attic 24 Little Squares Cushion</a>. I only had to actually sew it up but it's just been sitting there for weeks. Anyway here is the finished project and I'm really pleased with how colourful it looks. It's my first time using the 'join as you go' technique with the little squares and it's so easy I'll definitley do this again.</div>

Next I finished my Owl Doorstop. I'd actually finished all the crocheting weeks ago-it just needed stuffing and sewing up. I ended up putting a kilo of dried chick peas in to weigh him down. Anyway, it's Monday tomorrow and back to work so I decided to have a go at making another corsage type brooch but in cotton instead of wool so I can wear it on a cardie for a more Summer-y look. I really like how it turned out as I've not used cotton before and I found it a bit fiddly to crochet with it because it has no stretch in it. I used the <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/crochet-flowers-and-leaves.html" target="_blank">Attic 24</a> pattern and just sewed a circle of felt on the back with a brooch pin on. I can't wait to wear it tomorrow for work. It should cheer up a dreary rainy Manchester Monday.....</div>

I had such a lovely weekend in Durham. Geordie wanted to go and look at a 1950's Ford Pop he wants to buy/restore so we decided to go for the weekend as it's a county we know and love very much.</div>
<div align="center">
He liked the car....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
......we then drove to Barnard Castle and saw David Harper's Antique shop (the guy on <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00xgqvf" target="_blank">Antique Road Trip</a> and every other antique programme on T.V). Geordie wanted to have his photo taken with him but I get really really embarassed in situations like that so a photo of his shop had to do. </div>

When I got home I decided to make my <a href="http://www.sarah-smith.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sara Smith</a> cleaning cloths bunting for my garden-nothing to do with the jubilee mind-I just like bunting. I paid £1.00 for 2 packs of these cloths and cut each cloth into 10 triangles and then hand stitched them onto some blue braid. The good thing about making bunting out of these cloths is I can leave them outside and they won't come to any harm as they are designed for cleaning and washing. </div>

Inside, so you can see the colours and size better. I'm really pleased with how they came out and they were so so simple to make. If I had a sewing machine they would have been made in minutes-no hemming, no pinning, just cut and sew.</div>

I just crocheted the rose, two leaves and stitched a vintage button on the front and a brooch pin on the back-it was done in about half an hour. Me and my Mum are hoping to do a craft stall in the autumn so I might make some of these as brooches, I might stitch some onto hair bobbles or slides.....I'm just trying a few things out at the moment and trying to make things I would like to buy if I saw them on a stall. I'd like this pinned on a vintage tweed bag or on my furry jacket......we'll see anyway.</div>

Well after spending a hideously hot day cooped up in my 7th floor office where the windows only open 2 inches due to Health and Safety, it was lovely to finally get home, make a lovely refreshing cup of earl grey tea and browse through the latest issue of <a href="http://molliemakes.themakingspot.com/" target="_blank">Mollie Makes</a>. If you haven't seen this magazine, you're missing a treat-it's brilliant. Normally there's a lovely free gift of vintage buttons, ribbon, crochet flower kits etc. The free gift this month is a magazine called 'Lets Get Hitched' and it's filled with gorgeous inspirational wedding themes and quirky, vintage stuff.</div>

I have had a frantic week trying to get my blanket finished. When it actually came down to it, I felt a bit sad to be coming to the end because it's my first blanket and I started it in the winter on those dark evenings and imagined finishing it in time for summer picnics....well hello summer, I've finished!!!</div>
<div align="center">
So without further ado.......here it is.</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLc8kaoFrAQZylzNsnBd7VaMXXrkQu59v-Z5krSTZ53lrGWPl781x7b0yvDSo-b8DCERE5ofsPs_N6JzM-_voWL_J6pugIDJgIgYDqGpOLvR5njf5Y7R51EoCjniwHtBDRIlu1-vplkdk/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" kba="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLc8kaoFrAQZylzNsnBd7VaMXXrkQu59v-Z5krSTZ53lrGWPl781x7b0yvDSo-b8DCERE5ofsPs_N6JzM-_voWL_J6pugIDJgIgYDqGpOLvR5njf5Y7R51EoCjniwHtBDRIlu1-vplkdk/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
It does look quite a lot brighter in real life and I am so happy with how it turned out! I do like all the random-ness of the different sized squares. I'd probably do things a bit differently colour-wise if I was starting it now but for my first big project, all in all, I'm pleased. Also as it's 100% acrylic, I was a bit worried how it would feel and drape but when it came out of the washer having been drowned in 'Comfort' fabric softener, it feels so soft and beautiful, I was really impressed. </div>
<div align="center">
I realised today as well that as this blanket is intended for Tulip my car, it's quite apt that it is 2 years ago this week that I passed my driving test and got the lovely Tulip!</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
Here's Oliver giving his expert opinion on the unfinished version before I added the border. It was honestly on the floor for less than 30 seconds while I picked the camera up, and there he was trying it out!! </div>

And lastly, my present from Geordie this week (as he did have a good week selling on ebay) was this lovely cool bag from <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/default.aspx" target="_blank">Cath Kidston</a>. I have wanted this for ages but they don't stock them anymore as they have a new one out now. I saw this on ebay and mentioned a few hundred times how much I love it. Anyway when my back was turned, a bid was put on and this morning it arrived in the post......</div>

I absolutely love long socks and I almost swooned with delight when I saw these. The are from an Irish company called <a href="http://www.avoca.ie/home/products/?mid=2&sid=103" target="_blank">Avoca</a> (who do beautiful soaps as well!!!) You can buy them from the internet but I found them in a lovely shop in Haworth and as the shop also stocks Cath Kidston, I spent a lovely half hour browsing and touching and day dreaming. </div>

Oh my god!!!!! Excitement!!!! We have tickets for Morrissey!!!!!! I nearly had a heart attack trying to buy tickets, I had 2 phones and my laptop going-I looked like one of those Wall street traders shouting 'Buy,Sell,Buy'. After I had calmed down on friday, I noticed these on my kitchen table, Geordie found them in the 'hideous cupboard under the srairs'. I have got no idea where they came from or what they were doing in my 'hideous cupboard under the stairs'. Geordie has never seen them before either! I do like them though and squealed with delight on finding them.....</div>

<div align="center">
I haven't been doing much to blog about recently as no sooner did I recover from my virus (which made me feel rough for about 3 weeks) when I started to feel ill again. I actually realised I'd been ill every month since last November. I decided to really take it easy for a couple of weeks and went to bed early every night and got loads of sleep, I bought some vitamin C, zinc and echinacea drops, loads of fruit, salad and vegetables, and tried to keep my stress levels really low. Geordie is an angel when I feel low because he was making me my tea so I could eat when I came in from work, and he made me a flask of hot water, honey and lemon every morning to take to work. It seems to be working up to now anyway because fingers crossed I've started to feel a bit better and more like my old self.</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
Anyway speaking of Geordie, he has been working away on restoring his lovely 1978 MGB GT. He loves restoring classic cars and we have had loads of Beetles, Mini's, a VW campervan and loads of motorbikes. I am trying desperately to finish my car blanket so we can take it to the classic car shows in the summer in the MG with our lovely picnic hamper.</div>

<div align="center">
I know it's only an MG not an E-type jag but I always feel a bit decadent and movie star-ish when we go out in it and I think Geordie should be wearing a velvet smoking jacket and smoking a pipe.</div>

Look what Geordie found in a skip near a friend of ours?</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIhyphenhyphenvpcc1CFap5y6zynuSILRUCbThQM7y0R2Uk8cgeRRGfUIa8JU7o4genvo4Rp__gLvrlnjHNYpXuhy8myi8PqSmIcREfKKv8QpIkMfCMbNWyrDNMVO57KHiAuOd8Z78EqDbBIkhAamQ/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIhyphenhyphenvpcc1CFap5y6zynuSILRUCbThQM7y0R2Uk8cgeRRGfUIa8JU7o4genvo4Rp__gLvrlnjHNYpXuhy8myi8PqSmIcREfKKv8QpIkMfCMbNWyrDNMVO57KHiAuOd8Z78EqDbBIkhAamQ/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
It's really solid and chunky. I'm going to paint it and put it on the landing as a linen / bedding box. We're really short of storage in this house and this is just so perfect (or it will be when I've finished with it). The only reason I can think of for it being in a skip is that there is a small ink stain on the top but once I've sanded and painted it it will be fine.</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
Tonight I decided to look at all the squares I was crocheting for my Babette Car blanket that I started in February and have neglected after an initial flurry of activity. I laid all the pieces out and realised it won't take many more squares as I'm planning on putting quite a thick border on it. This blanket is to take out in the car for sitting on at classic car shows and picnics so I must get it finished in the next couple of months. When I look at it, I really wish I'd gone for a brighter yellow instead of that pale one but never mind. Also all the wool is acrylic and some of it feels a bit 'squeaky' but I wanted it to be hard wearing and machine washable so I'm sure it will be ok when it all comes together.</div>
<div align="center">

<br />
<div align="center">
I finally finished my Easter chicks too so they are being hand delivered with chocolate and hard cash tomorrow.....(and yes I know the pink one has a bent leg-I think it's cute and quirky but I'm not sure my super critical niece will agree!)</div>
<div align="center">

<br />
<div align="center">
I also made this on Friday for my antiques friend Ms M who has a bit of a boiled egg / vintage egg cup obsession. It was her birthday and since she left work we made a pact not to buy birthday presents for each other anymore as she is trying to start her business up and is on a strict budget. I just couldn't do it so I told her it didn't count as I made it.</div>

<br />
<div align="center">
In the end it was good karma because one of her friends saw it and asked if I could make her a hat in a similar style....and she wants to pay for it!!!! I feel a bit wierd about it as when I've made things in the past I've always done it for nothing so we'll see.....</div>

Had a lovely weekend but I've been so busy at work I haven't had a chance to upload my pictures. </div>
<div align="center">
On Friday I started making the easter 'birdies' for my nephew and niece. I think I might have to combine them with chocolate or 'hard cash' as at the age of 9 and 8, they are a bit too old to be satisfied with home-made pressies now. This is as far as I got though......</div>

Geordie found this gorgeous silver plated ice bucket with tongs shaped like chickens feet. This is perfect for our 1950's drinks trolley which we've been collecting stuff for over the last couple of years. To be honest we've got way too much stuff now, but this definitely has to go on it-only a fiver as well. It's dated 1953.</div>

On Sunday we went to the Reebok Antiques fair in Bolton. I actually missed the junction on the motorway and ended up miles away but it was worth it in the end. I got a lovely 1970's Midwinter sugar bowl (I think)-it's got a lid so I'm not 100% sure if that's what it is-and only £2. Just need all the matching cups, saucers and plates now-lol.</div>

I got a really sweet black cat brooch for £3, some vintage buttons for £2, a Ladybird book about radios for my geeky Geordie (who makes most of his money these days buying and selling vintage short wave and CB radio's), and the last thing we got was a metal school 'Librarian' badge which Geordie found and surprised me with. He remembered me telling him that I was the librarian when I was 9 at Primary school and had one of these badges which I was very proud of. One day I lost it and my teacher told me off and refused to replace it. I remember being heartbroken and crying about it. Geordie has been trying to get me one for ages but could only ever find 'Prefect' ones so I was absolutely over the moon when he gave me this-it meant as much to me as a diamond ring.</div>

I've been suffering since last Sunday with a viral throat infection-oh my, have I felt sorry for myself! I've not been in work, I couldn't eat anything, I've been aching, hot and cold, totally miserable and full of self pity. My lovely Geordie has been looking after me, cooking me soft food and bringing me presents. I've been sitting in bed, watching TV and crocheting away on my <a href="http://belladia.typepad.com/bella_dia/2006/11/vintage_vertica.html" target="_blank">Vintage Stripe Blanket</a></div>

As you can see I've still got a fair way to go, but it is about 4 foot wide so I'm quite proud of how much I've done in a week. I think this blanket is going to be kept on the back of the sofa to add colour and for snuggling.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway yesterday I started to feel a bit of the 'old' me coming back. The sun was shining, my throat was feeling better and I had an urge.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Total spend? £4.99. The canisters were £2.99 from B&M Bargains, the 3 tea towels £1.49 and the Royal Worcester Evesham porcelain Olive dish, 50p from the charity shop. I went straight to B&Q and bought sandpaper, and a lovely tin of duck egg blue paint. It isn't a priceless antique, it's a very shaky, very scratched cupboard and it was going on a skip if I didn't take it so I don't feel guilty painting it. Also my house does not suit dark furniture, so it's getting painted.</div>

Once again I have <strike>copied</strike> been inspired by Lucy on <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/">Attic 24</a> to make <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2009/02/crochet-flower-brooch.html">this brooch</a>. I have loved it since I first saw it and decided to make one for my Mum for Mothers Day. She has a lovely purple coat so I decided to make orange, pink and turquoise flowers to set it off. My Mum was a hippy in the 60's and loves her bright colours....here is the end result:-</div>

I had a lovely day in town today shopping with my friend Ms V. We of course started off in Cath Kidston where we were looking at all the beautiful fabrics and planning bunting for a baby shower she is crafting for. We saw some gorgeous Orla Kiely stuff which I love (but is way out of my price range) and then on to Monsoon where I bought this top with a £25 voucher I had been given. The top was £26 and it felt fab to be having it all wrapped in tissue and put in a lovely bag and just handing over £1. Tee hee!</div>

On Friday I had a lovely day out with my friend Miss M who has just started a little business in antiques. She has been collecting for years and is great at hunting out fab bargains. We drove to Todmorden first and went to <a href="http://picturehouseantiques.co.uk/">Picture House Antiques</a> where I got this.....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDGeLFtCim9l0njF5o43mPG7uILwLvK-cgwBQw40DTvmBRjcc58qfmA0X8ThOC1oc-9T2BttLGD4-DuIh8JVOXseWWitSFWrmWxUam3SfhuhVIgxX0HMCfVwCp0xtfd2eRdA2Qw96cvzc/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDGeLFtCim9l0njF5o43mPG7uILwLvK-cgwBQw40DTvmBRjcc58qfmA0X8ThOC1oc-9T2BttLGD4-DuIh8JVOXseWWitSFWrmWxUam3SfhuhVIgxX0HMCfVwCp0xtfd2eRdA2Qw96cvzc/s320/005.JPG" width="320" yda="true" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
It's from the 1950's from Egersund, Norway and yes it should have a lid but I'm always attracted to things that might get rejected for not being perfect. I fell in love with it and my friend got me some money off (I'm too shy to ask for their best price!!)-it only cost me £4. I was overjoyed and it's going to go on my new kitchen shelf when it gets put up. They had a whole corner in the shop full of casserole dishes, coffee pots, tea sets etc etc. I also saw a snail dish! Never seen one of those before and hopefully I'll never see one again-lol.</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
We then drove on to <a href="http://www.hebdenbridge.com/showpage.php?ID=1">Hebden Bridge</a> a place I love and have been coming to for years. We went in some lovely vintage clothes shops and craft shops and were really spoilt for choice. I was on a very tight budget but I'll definitely go back on payday! Anyway Miss M got some lovely things to sell on, a lovely TG Green mixing bowl (that I hankered after,) a 'boudoir' sign and a vintage soap dish. I found this for my Dad's fittingroom....</div>
<div align="center">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My Dad is a bespoke tailor who has a lovely fitting room for his customers, which is decorated with lovely vintage things. I've bought him Victorian tailors bills, old copy's of Tailor and Cutter, an Art Deco tie press, all manner of 'tailor' related ephemera which he displays proudly. This was £2, I was going to save it towards his birthday present in July but I usually get too excited when I find something for someone that I'll probably just end up giving it to him next time I see him. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also got these for myself.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we went for lovely coffee and cake which Miss M treated me too in return for me doing the driving in the lovely Tulip. I still haven't finished the Tulip Car Blanket yet, but I did manage to squeeze this in...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really needed new wellies as it will soon be time for Classic Car shows /Country shows/ Steam rallies etc and all the other shows in fields which get muddy in the lovely British weather. I wanted shorter ones and saw these in Tesco (of all places). They were £12 and I had £11.50 in clubcard vouchers so they cost me 50p-total bargain!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This week I will be chipping away at my Klimt-inspired car blanket. I've got a bag full of pieces now and I can't wait to start fitting them all together. Also I need to start knitting the puppy pug jumper I've been asked to make for 12 week old Tilly Puggles. My first commission-wish me luck.</div>

We drove back via Towton and stopped at the monument which marks the scene of the Battle of Towton 1461. It's very atmospheric and moving to think of the blood that was shed there.</div>

These are from the fabulous <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/2009/10/wrist-warmers.html">Lucy at Attic 24</a>. I absolutely love her use of colour on all her projects. I am pleased with mine and I love the green but I discovered tonight a lovely ball of wool in cranberry and I really wished I'd used it for a couple of stripes on these. I just would have liked a couple of more vibrant stripes in it. I can see me pulling these back and re-doing them this weekend...we'll see. The pattern was super-easy (as are all of Lucy's tutorials) but my first chain row was a bit tight on my arm so I turned mine upside down so the tighter end is around my fingers, which I really like.<br />

Oh well, I know I said no more knitting scarves or wrist warmers after knitting them for me, Mum and my sister but my little niece kept trying them all on and complaining about the unfairness of them all being too big for her! She must have told me a hundred times how much she wanted them and how turquoise was her favourite colour, so yesterday I trawled <a href="http://www.burymarket.com/default2.asp">Bury Market </a>, and found turquoise wool! Today Geordie was fixing a neighbours car so I sat and watched <a href="http://www.channel4.com/programmes/kirsties-handmade-britain">Kirstie's Handmade Britain</a> on Sky+, which I love, and knitted little girl versions of my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/quirky-vintage/miss-sadies-scarflette-2">scarflette</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/quirky-vintage/knit-mitts-and-wristlets">mittens</a>. </div>

<div align="center">
I haven't sewn them up yet but here they are next to my 'big girl' version. I hope she likes them. The turquoise is a bit more vibrant than it looks on the picture and I know nine year olds can be flipping fussy, so fingers crossed.</div>Quirky-Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06178405342747348369noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3294336637551587752.post-29613214752204090752012-02-23T15:17:00.001-08:002012-07-02T14:36:33.981-07:00Another quirky-vintage find....<br />

Do you like my lovely vintage casserole dish? My friend has been dabbling in antiques as a hobby for a few years now but she recently gave up work and is now starting her own small business. She particularly likes clockwork tin toys, drinks/cocktail items, kitchenalia and Art Deco. She bought me this and I just love all the pictures (even the mincer!!). I've got quite a few new things to display in the kitchen so I need Geordie to get his drill out and get me another shelf up!! I can't bring myself to use it because I just know something hideous would happen and it would end up in bits on the floor (and me too!)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinBtVShaTILrVufZXWtK0P6cTONYjiVw1Kxt7Z_zvJyldIUsoABstNyRHeCtvMUoy2mT9svMT9OFY01V2JKSMU3bysztAb_iDL6ainmR8kHD37sJhZWEPrbBhXH83i2e1zwi5MjKyadrE/s1600/dish+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="height: 190px; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; width: 388px;"><img border="0" height="150" lda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinBtVShaTILrVufZXWtK0P6cTONYjiVw1Kxt7Z_zvJyldIUsoABstNyRHeCtvMUoy2mT9svMT9OFY01V2JKSMU3bysztAb_iDL6ainmR8kHD37sJhZWEPrbBhXH83i2e1zwi5MjKyadrE/s200/dish+2.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>

Well I had a wonderful day with my wonderful sister shopping for birthday presents for our Mum. We of course ended up in Cath Kidston (well I say 'ended' but we just went straight there,lol). I got Mum <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-16396-cath-kidston-mini-dot-box-bag.aspx">this </a>, the mini dot box bag in green, and my sister got her <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-12377-cath-kidston-mini-dot-passport-holder.aspx">this</a>, mini dot passport holder, and <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-17281-cath-kidston-royal-stan-glasses-case.aspx">this</a>, red Stanley glasses case. The munchkins gor her <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-17530-cath-kidston-provence-rose-tea-mug.aspx">this</a> mug in Provence Rose. I also gave Mum the orange scarflette I made earlier which I'm modelling (badly) in one of my earlier posts. I have to admit I did treat myself to some gorgeous little red rose slides from CK too!! I also bought a keyring for a friend who is taking her driving test tomorrow-I really hope she passes and hopefully the keyring can go on her new car keys. We then lunched and chatted, then off to Primarni-it had to be done, it's the law! I got 2 beautiful vests with a chiffon trim, that could have definitely come from Monsoon-£3 each!! I just had to get both. One is a kind of jade colour and the other tan. </div>

I have started my car rug/blanket for Tulip and I'm really excited about it. I love the candy dolly mixture colours and it's so quick to do. Now that I've had my fill of neck and wrist warmers, I want to fly with this. In fact in my head I'm already planning another one for when Geordie gets around to decorating the bedroom. I'm also thinking about getting a sewing machine for my little box room cum study cum junk room. Even though my Dad is a tailor and has a fabulous workroom, I'd like my own machine so I can start a few sewing projects too. I've got 4 days off work now so by Sunday I hope to have doubled the size of my blanket-woohoo! </div>Quirky-Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06178405342747348369noreply@blogger.com0
